Trevone Bay is a picturesque coastal area located on the North Cornwall caost. It is situated near the town of Padstow, which is known for its vibrant fishing port and stunning natural beauty. The bay is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, offering a variety of activities and attractions.
The beach at Trevone Bay is a sandy and rocky cove that is relatively sheltered, making it an excellent spot for swimming, especially at low tide when a large expanse of sand is revealed. The waters are also ideal for surfing and bodyboarding due to the consistent waves that hit the shoreline. The bay is surrounded by cliffs and is divided into two sections: Trevone Main Beach and Little Trevone Beach, with a small natural archway known as 'Rocky Beach' connecting the two. Trevone Bay is also a great place for rockpooling, as the area has numerous rock pools that are teeming with marine life at low tide. These pools are a delight for families with children and for those interested in exploring the coastal wildlife.
The bay is part of the Trevone Nature Reserve, which is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. The reserve is managed by the National Trust and includes the surrounding cliffs and coastal paths, providing a haven for walkers and nature enthusiasts. The South West Coast Path passes through the reserve, offering stunning views of the coastline and opportunities to spot seabirds, seals, and dolphins.
Facilities at Trevone Bay include a car park, public toilets, and a seasonal lifeguard service. There is a café and a pub located near the beach, which are great for grabbing a bite to eat or a refreshing drink after a day in the sun.The area is well-known for its dramatic cliff walks and scenic beauty. The coastal path offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the chance to explore the nearby Trevose Head Lighthouse. The lighthouse stands tall on a rugged headland and is accessible by a scenic walk from the bay. During the summer months, the beach can get busy, but the bay's charm is that it never feels too crowded. It is a dog-friendly beach, with restrictions in place during peak season.
The local area is rich in history, with evidence of Bronze Age settlements and Iron Age fortifications. The name Trevone is derived from the Cornish word 'Tre', meaning 'farm' and 'Vone', which is thought to mean 'sandy'. Trevone Bay is a great destination for those looking to experience the beauty of the Cornish coast while enjoying a relaxing beach holiday with plenty of outdoor activities and natural sights to explore.
Trevone Bay is one of North Cornwall’s most picturesque coastal gems, located just a short distance from the bustling harbour town of Padstow. With its sweeping sandy cove, dramatic cliff scenery and access to some of the most scenic sections of the South West Coast Path, Trevone Bay has become a favourite destination for holidaymakers, walkers and watersports enthusiasts. Whether you’re planning a family beach holiday, a coastal adventure or a peaceful retreat by the sea, Trevone Bay offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, wildlife and Cornish charm.
The main beach at Trevone Bay is a sheltered, golden-sand cove framed by rugged cliffs and crystal-clear waters. At low tide, the beach opens out into a wide expanse of soft sand, ideal for sunbathing, beach games and paddling. The semi-enclosed nature of the bay makes it a safe and popular swimming spot, especially for families with young children. During the summer months, Trevone Bay benefits from a seasonal RNLI lifeguard service, adding peace of mind for those heading into the water.
For surfers and bodyboarders, Trevone Bay offers consistent waves that break onto the sandy shore, providing suitable conditions for beginners and experienced surfers alike. Its reliable surf, combined with the bay’s easy access and scenic surroundings, makes it a go-to location for watersports lovers seeking high-quality but less crowded surf than some of Cornwall’s more well-known beaches.
Trevone Bay is also an exceptional spot for rockpooling. As the tide recedes, a network of shallow pools reveals itself along the rocky edges of the bay, filled with crabs, anemones, shrimps and colourful marine species. Children and adults alike enjoy exploring these miniature underwater worlds, making rockpooling one of the most popular beach activities in Trevone.
To the east of the main beach lies Little Trevone Beach, a quieter rocky alcove accessible via a natural archway often referred to as Rocky Beach. This secluded corner is a favourite for snorkellers, photographers and those looking for a peaceful coastal escape.
Another notable natural landmark close to the bay is the famous Trevone “Blowhole”, a dramatic geological feature where a collapsed sea cave has created a deep, circular hole in the cliffside. When the tide and swell are right, waves surge beneath the cliffs and send spectacular bursts of sea spray into the air.
The surrounding coastline forms part of the Trevone Nature Reserve, an area protected and managed by the National Trust. The reserve encompasses cliff-top grasslands, wildflower meadows and rugged pathways filled with diverse flora and fauna. Throughout spring and summer, the cliffs are carpeted with sea thrift, gorse and heather, transforming the headlands into a colourful natural display.
Wildlife lovers will enjoy spotting seabirds such as fulmars, razorbills and cormorants, while offshore sightings may include grey seals, pods of dolphins and occasionally basking sharks gliding through the clear Cornish waters. The reserve’s untouched beauty and rich biodiversity make Trevone Bay a haven for nature photographers and walkers seeking unforgettable coastal views.

The farming heritage of the region continues today, with many local fields and cliff-top meadows still farmed by longstanding Cornish families.
